My first time…
…I was excited and a little nervous. It’s never easy putting yourself out there. But if you don’t, you’ll never consummate the act of someone reading your work.
…I was really asking for it. It’s important to attract online reviews from readers. There are all sorts of seductions out there to tempt people’s attention. But if you ask nicely, you can get people to throw a little attention your way.
…was with a friend’s wife. Sure, reviews from strangers can be a cheap thrill, but don’t be afraid to ask people you know for reviews too. But be open with them and let them know that there are no strings attached–you only want their honest feedback. And if they do write something you don’t like, don’t be so damn thin-skinned. Learn to take in the constructive criticism and forget the rest.
…was quick, over before I knew it. Online reviews don’t have to be long, scholarly examinations of your work. I like it (or didn’t). This is what I liked about it (or didn’t). Of course, you can say more if you want, showoff! Just remember, it’s not the size of the review that counts; it’s the glory on your story. (You know, only guys who leave brief reviews say that, right?)
…I got 4 our of 5 stars. Not bad for a first-timer.
…made me really, really look forward to the next time. So this is what everyone’s been going on about! Immediate feedback from readers can be an awesome thing. Give it up.
So, yeah, I’d love for you to read my new book, All Debts, Public and Private, when it comes out in December. You can pre-order it here.
I’d also love you for you to leave a review on Amazon. The fact is that, along with recommendations from a someone you know and trust, online reviews are important because they’re the biggest factor in getting readers to try a writer they’re unfamiliar with.
And I’m hoping this one spreads like an STD.
Hope all is well.

P.S. Apologies for this post, but I’m a guy so…most everything at some level is sex to me. (Thanks, Freud!)
Also, regarding reviews, obviously I hope you like my book enough to leave a good review, but that’s up to you. When it comes to reviewing my work, you gotta write what you feel, kids.
