When I was a kid — back when there were only three major television networks just 13 total channels because that’s all the TV geniuses could fit on the dial — it was a big deal when your favorite show went on “Summer Hiatus.”
Summer hiatus was network code for “We’re replacing your show with some crap.”
See kids, back then networks didn’t have to give us good shows to watch if they didn’t feel like it. Our choices were limited. We took what they gave us and, while we might not like it, many of us watched it anyway.
Earlier this summer I put Crime and Funishment (C&F) on hiatus for the season. To be clear, it wasn’t performing poorly in the ratings. Mostly because there aren’t any ratings.
No, I simply wanted to focus on prepping my crime novel, All Debts, Public and Private (ADPP) for publication while still having time to enjoy the summer (read: drink…okay, and spend time with my family).
So when C&F went on summer hiatus, I chose not to replace it with an inferior product instead replacing it with…silence.
For me, that silence has been golden, allowing me to make a massive amount of progress. Now that we’re past the halfway point of summer, it seems like a good time to give you an update on the status of all things Mr. Chad.
The Good News: Publication for ADPP is fast approaching. I’m in the final stages of formatting the Kindle edition.
More Good News: Max K., the artist and I are making feverish progress on the cover art, which I hope to preview for you in the next few weeks. Have to say, it’s a such a delight working with Max. Opening every attachment’s like opening a present on Christmas morning. Nothing better than working with friends, especially insanely talented ones. You should check out his site.
Even More Good News: Got my first review of Getaway on Amazon. More on this later, as well as my experiences with Getaway, which served a few purposes beyond simply being a fun story to write and read.
The Bad News: Crime and Funishment remains on hiatus for the foreseeable future. I know, bums me out too. That thing is fun to research and write. It has to be—FUN is in the title. You should check it out. It’s what the content dorks call “evergreen.” That’s jargon for it’s relevant anytime.
Hope all is well!
